Costello to quit politics

Directly after the Coalitions resounding defeat in the election comes news that Peter Costello will quit politics for a career in business. Is he quitting while the opportunity is there or jumping from a leaking ship? This is the man the Coalition pitched as the successor to Howard but seems not to have the interest?

25 Nov 07 Can't blame him. He put his hand up and they shot him down. There's no way he'd hang around to shoulder any responsibility after that.

Even if he'd gone into the election leading the Coalition, they wouldn't have won so I question his resolve?
